The Book of Mormon tested
Praying about it
Moroni invites every reader to pray and receive a witness by the Holy Ghost. The Bible tells us how God has already answered.
Moroni's promise
The last chapter of the Book of Mormon asks readers to ask God, with a sincere heart, real intent and faith in Christ, if these things are not true. Missionaries invite people to pray and wait for a confirming feeling.
4And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. 5And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

What the Bible says
We should pray about everything. But God does not ask us to pray about whether to believe something that contradicts what he has already said. The heart is deceitful, a way can seem right and end in death, and the Bereans were praised for checking the message against Scripture. If a feeling and the written word disagree, the word wins.
9The heart is deceitful above all things and it is exceedingly corrupt. Who can know it?
